To the west of Da Nang, and officially under the administrative jurisdiction of the city, are the Ba Na Hills. On the day we went there, it was completely fine in Da Nang, but poured like crazy up in the Hills. Hydrangeas blossomed. One used to be able to get to the top via a fairly steep road, but now, one is a captive audience for the cable car - the longest cable car, so I'm told, in the world. It certainly felt like it. It is an amazing feat of engineering, and although i hate being captive of commercialism, this was an fascinating experience. At the top, on a saddle where one can see both west and east, there is a children's theme park under construction. I'm not a fan, but then, it's not my country, and I suspect it will be a roaring success for children's parties.
