One of the saddest things I see in the social life of the herds is when an aging stallion of high ranking loses all his mares to an up and coming younger male. They then are pushed out and live a lonely life within sight of their former band but always aware that they will be chased away by the stallion that defeated them. The only time I see a former band stallion return to claim his position is if he has been wounded and needs time to heal before battling his way back. If though a banished stallion is unable to fight back he is destined for a life alone.
