The big red horse and the younger pinto know each other well. About five years ago, the newborn pinto's father (Rocky) died. (We found his body in the desert, possibly killed from a high-powered rifle).

Anyway, the big red stallion ended up with the mares from the deceased stallion's harem, including the young pinto. The red allowed the pinto to stay even as he reached maturity and still runs with the red's herd. This is an uneasy alliance, and I think the maturing pinto will one day seriously challenge and win away the harem from the dominating red male. (The pinto's mother is still alive and part of another stallion's band).
