A bighorn ram rests on slope high above Battle Creek on the west face of the mountain.
Just a mile downstream from this location in and around 1850, a pioneer settlement was established. A stone's throw from where this ram rests, those settlers and the local Indian tribe fought in a skirmish that pitted bow and arrow against rifles. You can guess which side suffered the loss.
The creek flowing through the site became Battle Creek. And the Indians were eventually moved to a reservation in Eastern Utah. Generally, the same tale from any early settlement in the Wild West.
