A stallion I have always called "Red" takes on a challenge from an up-and-coming bachelor. Red, in the back of this frame, rears up as the younger stallion charges in to fight.

This image was taken two weeks ago and I am just now getting to analyzing the events captured before and after this frame was taken. The images shot at 7 frames/second show the older stallion turning away from his mare to meet the charge of the challenger. The two clash just after this shot and the older stallion is knocked to the ground by the momentum of the younger male. The older horse is able to scramble to his feet but takes a powerful bite on the neck. The fight seemed to end in a draw, with the young stallion retreating away from the older one.

Two weeks later (yesterday) I returned to see the same herd again. Things had changed, and you will see the results in the coming updates.
