Last night, a large herd of about 90 mustangs decided to travel ten miles around the mountain to the far side in search of a better source of water. The dusty caravan attracted the attention of an old black stallion that normally keeps his mare isolated many miles away from the others. He ditched the mare and her young foal and followed the big herd to the distant waterhole. He did not want water, but went immediately to challenge for a mare. In this image, he displays his readiness to fight to a very confident looking roan. I don't know what happened, because I was there to help a team that was doing some filming of the mustangs, and had to leave. It will be interesting to see later if he was able to add another mare to his holdings.
