I have spent probably way too much time watching the mustangs, enough that I could tell you that each stallion has a distinct personality. In this photo, 'Ice' (the lighter horse) seems amazed that 'Buck' would dare raise a threatening front hoof at him.

In practice, Ice has proven to hold his own against even the most aggressive males, and will display his rank by not backing away from a confrontation with any of them.
