Killer Mother.

This photo shows what a mother wild horse will do when confronted with a perceived threat to her young. The herd encountered a newborn pronghorn antelope that was too young to get up and get away. The black mare spotted the small antelope and may have mistook it for a coyote. In any case, I arrived with my long lens just as the mother killed the poor little antelope.

My wife was particularly upset by this image, but it is an image of life as it is in the desert.
