This old stallion was recently gathered with the rest of the wild horses. Although a tough fighter and defender of his band of mares, I always wondered about those large, swollen front knees. He also had a big growth under his chin and big cancerous lump on his side. His heart was big, never backing away from a challenge to his leadership.

With my visit to the BLM holding facility today, I asked about this old stallion. The manager told me he had to be 'put down'. He must have been in much worse condition that I had thought, especially to the trained eyes of the BLM mustang experts.
