This bull elk was resting on top of a ridge overlooking the meadow below where the cows in his harem were grazing. You might be able to see that his left eye has been injured. It looks like the pupil has been damaged and is hanging out of the white part of his eye. He probably had the eye punctured by another bull's antler as they fought.
