It was a beautiful experience to have a hundred horses stream around me at sundown. An hour before this frame was taken, the horses were grazing about four miles away. Then, one of the lead mares starting slowly ambling southwest in the direction of the waterhole. Within a half hour, all of the herd followed and the pace quickened. I drove ahead to the waterhole, parked my truck out of sight and ran down into the gully to hide and wait with my camera. By the time the herd came over the hill a thousand yards above me, they were all at a full gallop. I was hidden behind a large sagebrush in the bottom of the gully. As the horses ran by me, my camera filled itself with thirsty horses and loads of dust. I am going to have to take my 500mm in for cleaning.
