* Setting up a New MC Gallery

This is a Very Simple and "To The Point" way for Winners of the Mini-Challenges to set up a new gallery

Even if you are a veteran at setting up on Pbase, using this Guide will save you a lot of mouse clicks and Navigating!

Anyone with Questions, Suggestions or Comments; Please Contact
Robert(EST) or Peter(GMT+1)

Many folks are intimidated even at posting a photo in the MC if they are not familiar with Pbase.
Some will hold back at the "horror" of winning and then having to do the set-up proccess!
Our intentions are to provide a small and simple Tutorial and a Template to make this proccess extremely simple!!

  1. Log into the Konica Minolta Galleries as you normally would and navigate to the KM Mini Challenge Galleries.

  2. Open this gallery!! If you are 'Logged In' and reading this, simply Click here. This will open a new window. You should be in the Mini Challenges Main Gallery. Choose edit this gallery at the top of the page.

  3. Scroll down the page to the section entitled "Create a New Gallery".

  4. In the "Name your new gallery" dialog box, enter *mc_1xx* (asteriks not needed; 1xx being the NEW MC#; Be sure to replace 1xx with the number of the NEW MC!) and then UNCHECK the box that asks 'Create the gallery at root level'. It is Very Important to UNCHECK that option!!

  5. Choose the New Gallery button and you will be taken to a new edit screen! Enter a title in the 'title' bar Using these parameters- *KM Mini-Challenge #1xx - Your theme here* (asteriks not needed) and use the 'Update Gallery' button below at the end of that section! You should do this first thing and then remember to ALWAYS reference the title bar when editing in any gallery!!

  6. Come back to this gallery (via window!) and open the Template:: This will open a new window!!

  7. Copy ONLY the entire contents of the "description" box from the Template, then switch windows back to "your" gallery and paste into the 'description' box in your new gallery. Use the 'Update Gallery' button! (Please DO NOT simply try to Copy/Move the Template gallery itself!) Switch back to the Template and then Close that Window. DO NOT Save any changes!!

  8. Back to editing your Gallery; You don't need to know HTML to edit the Description that appears in your gallery. Inside the "description" box, Carefully look for the asteriks, *?*, *your info here* etc... Replace the asteriks and anything in between with your own text! Leave any before or after spaces.. Just below the description box is a small checkbox that states "check if using html in the description". Make sure this box is CHECKED!. Then use the 'Update Gallery' button again down at the bottom of that section! This is important!!

  9. Upload your Gallery Header Image just as you would normally enter a challenge!! Edit as needed. Then Choose 'view this gallery' as you would normally, Proofread it and edit as needed, update, and then navigate back to the KM Mini-Challenges MAIN gallery.

  10. Choose 'edit this gallery' at the top of the KM Mini-Challenges gallery and scroll down until you see your gallery listed (Should be the first one). Click on "set representative".. Then choose 'display this gallery' and from there 'All Galleries' to verify your gallery header is showing up on the main page! If So! Your gallery is ready to go!! If you have any questions or are having trouble, please feel free to use one of the contact links near the top of this page instead of the open forums.

  11. B Moderators Guide

Prepare your DPReview post! Use a text editor if needed and then copy and paste! Post your new theme in a new Main thread in the KMTF using asteriks to highlight it, and don't forget to add the link to your new gallery in your OP (Opening Post). Also copy the url to your main thread and paste in the description box of your new gallery where shown(All Caps!)

Post a new thread (only with a link to the main thread) in all appropiate forums inviting them to join in the fun.. STF, KMSLRTF and soon the SSLRTF..

Check often and try to keep the thread visible..

Remember that the main thread will ALWAYS reside in the KMTF regardless of who wins. We simply invite our friends to join!!

First of all, Keep in mind that these Mini-Challenges are quite informal in their nature and therefore are totally subjective to the Moderators' Opinions and Preferences!!
If you are the Moderator, those Opinions and Preferences will be yours!!

In keeping with the Spirit of the Mini-Challenges, You should limit your judgement to the merits of composition, exposure, focus and Most of all, how well the photo fits the theme, and how it makes you "feel". We strongly discourage using the technical qualities of the photo(pixel peeping)as a main criteria when judging in these mini-challenges. That is covered in the Main Challenges.. Let's keep this informal and encourage seeing what makes our effort an artistic endeavor as opposed to just another snapshot!!
Some cameras are more resolute than others, but we don't care about that here!
It's all about what you see, and how well you use your camera to capture it!

Moderating an MC is a Learning experience in itself, and can be Very Rewarding! It makes you think about what others see in your description, and how they interpret things that perhaps the rest of us do not see!!!

C How to keep the Challenge alive!

Just keep the threads alive! Keep them on the front page! Post new ideas.. Post the name of a song that fits the theme and may inspire! A book that may inspire! A movie that may inspire! New samples to get the creative juices flowing!! Anything but "bump, back to the top"....And don't forget this; Critiquing::

    D Just have Fun!!
