The passenger train service was discontinued in Newfoundland
(the island portion) in 1969, because the narrow gauge
railroad was too slow and it was too expensive a job to
upgrade it. A trans-island bus service took over passengers.
The freight service lasted almost another 20 years before
the train service was scrapped altogether. Now, freight
comes in either by ship or transport trucks.
This engine and a few cars were brought to a local park in
hopes of being a tourist attraction. I don't think it worked...
