This is my favourite so far (Friday night)... cropping to square is a bad idea. Works 100% as it is, and needs the sandy space in the bottom half. A real beauty!

The crop as it is works for me. The (if you'll excuse the pun) sanded feel and the little touch of red are important. I also find it amusing.

Another great image where less is more. I agree that the cropping is certainly worth trying.

i like the crop as it is. gives it 3 clear elements: the surf, the footprints and the sand. terrific shot. bugzie

This is great - very simple but effective with good composition and a nice abstract quality. You can't help but thinking that the bird came from the water and returned to it!
Suggestion: Crop the bottom to end up with a square format.
