My Favourite Cardie by Bugzie

melbourne australia

I knitted this cardigan over 25 years ago. It's a patchwork of old, traditional stitches but I just made the pattern up as I went along. It looks delicate but it's as tough as old nails -- just gets tossed in the regular wash. Very feminine... delicate and pretty, but also resilient and practical.

reverted to the original image. i just couldn't get it all to work in the reshoots. it was all the old swings and roundabouts. :0) bugzie

This is a situation when i liked the original version better. I think the circle ornament lost here from its importance and the curve with the buttons seem to be also shorter. If you can still experiment with it, i suggest to try to place the ornament to the bottom-right third, show more of the white shirt while playing with the V shape, and counterpart the ornament with the necklet. I agree with everything you said...the bottoms, the jewelry, the shades of white etc. are the important photographic elements. For me, the right hand side just doesn't carry the same interest (i.e. appears flat) and sort of drains some of the 'energy' of the shot...maybe cropping 25% off the right?
In any event, these challenges would be pretty boring if we all had the same opinion :)

Don't see really why is it to complain when a folded cloth looks "flat"? The photographically important things here are the textures, the curve of the buttons, the shades of white and the encomposed jewellery IMHO. MCsaba

I like the colors and focus. Others have said that it appears flat (and it does a bit). Introducing some side lighting may help, but maybe some nice folds (as in the upper left) would add depth too?
The one thing that seems a bit "forced" to me is the placement of the sleeve (?) on the right. The left side of the shot looks very casual and "old friendy" but the right looks a bit contrived.
BTW - damned nice job on the knitting.

I agree that the image is a little bit flat thanks to the lighting, but the overall impression is great. Texture, color and composition work great for me.

i decided to have a go at some indoor shots. so these are some first tries. i'll have another crack but i'll let in more ambient light on this one. the good thing about indoor shots is you can do it again and again! yes, too much bounced flash here. bugzie

Hi Bugzie, I like the composition. Nice texture in the materials. The image does look a little flat to me. I sometimes find a tablelamp off to one side can help bring a little more depth to an indoor shot.
Regards,
Richard.

Bugzie, this picture shows me a new and quite unexpected side of you. It tells that you have a strong emotional relationship to this object, which is may be just an old cardie for others. I like the circle ornament and the other jewelry, these enforce that this piece is important for you. MCsaba
