there's not enough relationship between your three different elements. a tighter crop might help. and putting the oil lamp way way back, so it's way out of focus and provides a background. try some backlighting. try angling the camera more over the ground plane. i think you're being too careful. play around and bang that shutter button lots.

Not sure exactly what you mean by lacking unity. My preferred medium is stained glass so I'm kind of a newbie at composing artistic photos . . . What could I do I to provide the unity you mentioned?

those reflections and colours in the marbles are beautiful, but the three elements in your shot lack unity. maybe you too should have a good play with your marbles. ;-) and everything doesn't have to be on the horizontal. it's your camera, you can twist and turn it any way you like. try giving gravity the flick!
