1st: Cure For A Rainy Day - JDU, rain man

my house in the suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia

Further to the idea of dispensing umbrellas like vaccine or medicine to combat the rain, coincidentally, it has actually been raining here for the last couple of days, so this little project has provided some indoors relief for me as a cure for a rainy day. :^)

Syringe to create water drops. Umbrella backlit with manual flashgun.

This is the better drop shot i have ever seen.
The background is perfect, the set up is perfect, the definition is perfect.
This one is way out of the league

Wow!

Another wow shot, John.
The softness of that pool is great as it also captures some sharp reflections.
I also like the juxtaposition of the oof and muted background umbrella versus the razor sharp images in the drops. The color combo works as well here as in your comp entry and the linear/radial background provides a nice foil for the curves in foreground.
Although the 'excitement' comes from the syringe and falling drops, I think I'd like to see a bit more of the of the pool at the bottom.
On a technical note, and I'm not sure how to address this, this image HAS to be seen in original size to be appreciated. At my normal screen resolution, it doesn't fit. I adjusted my monitor to 1280x1024 and that worked pretty well. For anyone else reading this comment, it's worth the effort.
Well done,
Bob

Thanks Georg. One flash, so what you see is what was there at that moment in time. Multiflash would have produced a much more transparent and washed out result for each drop, plus the greater variety of the series of drops is more interesting to view, not to mention more challenging and rewarding to capture. This was a lot more difficult than the drops of water on the mirror, with more challenging variables to get around for this one, not the least of which was getting enough drops in mid air at the time the flash fired without it being just a continuous stream of water. There were plenty of non-keepers along the way, but a few other keepers as well. John

Another amazing picture, John. Your umbrella is getting a lot of use in this challenge. Is that all the same drop with the flash triggered several times, or are they seperate drops captured with a single flash? -Ord
