4th: Nested Seeds by Jean-Louis Ecochard

It was a sunny day so I decided to give these seeds a repeating texture by shooting at ISO 3200.
They can be seen at the Victoria Lilly pond of the National Zoo

Veronica,
It is the pod of the Lotus.

this is a stunning combination of shape, form & color. Each is repeated without becoming a cookie-cutter type of image. I've only seen these seed heads in dried floral bouquets and never actually imagined them as a growing plant. At first I thought you had inserted little blueberries into the holes. The blue-violet color is fantastic...nice to have the matte repeating it. Would have liked to see a dropped shadow on the image level or an inside shadow on the matte level. What is the name of the plant?

Thanks. The light object is the stem. I did a version without it but it seemed to fake. Maybe because I know how the plant looks like.
Thanks for the comment.

A mesmerising pattern indeed, JL, enhanced by the 3D effect coming from the light/dark background. The only nitpick I have is the top background, where a light object is present in the dark part. A bit disturbing ? Excellent work !

I've never seen anything like this.
I've been back here a half dozen times and tried to think of some 'photographic' comment to make, but I keep getting lost in the magic of the object itself. And maybe that is the best comment I can make.

I love this shot - it has a really "alien" quality to it.
How big is this thing? It's hard to judge.

I was wondering if there might have been an advantage in a monochromatic background, but then I realized that the black and white contributed to the 3D imagery. I particularly liked how the speckled noise of the frame makes the 3200 image appear even less noisy. Nice texture capture.

JL,
Interesting image. The contrast boast seems to give it a 3d look. Like it's coming out of the screen. very cool

JL, great image. Very pleasing shapes, colours and textures. I wouldn't have thought to use ISO3200 for added texture. The frame complements the rest quite well too. Excellent choice for the theme.
