3rd Weekend by JDU

my house in the suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia

I decided to try a more conventional self-portrait in my house rather than on it. This is what my face sometimes looks like on a Saturday evening and, yes, that's red wine. :^)

My flashgun is not very compatible with my camera, so I needed a workaround to achieve this lighting. I used a long enough exposure to allow me to fire my flashgun off to the side (using its test button) during the exposure into a large piece of white card to use as a reflector/diffuser. I had to reach across my body with my left hand to press the shutter release button on the long remote cord and then press the flashgun test button less than 0.6 seconds later.

G'day Marc. Thanks for your comments. My flashgun is not compatible with my 7D. Wireless doesn't work at all. Also due to the incompatibility, even if I had a flash sync cable, I wouldn't be able to control the output level, so I had to improvise. Cheers, John

John,
I really like this self portrait. The side lighting works nicely as does the sligtly devilish expression. The framing of your face and the glass work as well.

One thing (having nothing to do with the image itself) is why you needed to fire the flash manually? I assume the 7d has a wireless mode or a sync port.
