On Top Of The World by JDU

the roof of my house in the suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia

Yes, this is me enjoying my hobby and sharing with you one of my photographic haunts: the roof of my house at dusk, ususally slightly earlier than this for sunsets at this time of the year. :^) I thought about posting it upside down, but didn't want to cause poor old Bracket as much worry with this one as I did with my C35 roof shot. I deleted my first entry and posted this one I took a day after the first one as I wanted the star effect for the streetlight from a long exposure at narrow aperture. I wore more clothes this time as there was a cool breeze; don't forget it's winter here, albeit fairly mild.

I used the long remote cord RC-1000L with my 7D for this self-portrait so I could use slow flash sync, and I cloned out the cord.

i love the situation you have captured here. my memory of the impact of your initial image is very strong, so i have to say i'd like to see that one again. regardless, this is just a JDU classic image. thanx, adrian

The eyes were a bit weird due to my inelegant attempt at redeye reduction the first time, so here's a repost. Cheers, John

Nicely done. I always enjoy the personal touch you bring to your photos. Not sure I agree with the beer and roofs don't mix - I'd need a six pack of courage to even attempt that pose. Bob

hi JDU,
thanks for posting this one upright, else I'd have to topple over my monitor again ;-)
great self portrait. the star from the lamp adds a nice touch. you really must have a mild winter, I would be shaking if I sat on my roof in winter.

Thanks Bruce. Beer and roof don't mix so well! ;^) With narrower apertures like this (f/22), images are definitely less sharp and require more sharpening than those at wider apertures (except wide open), but results can still be ok. Cheers, John

John, whatever happened to your little beer stein? :()

Wonderfully sharp image. Glad to see your gear is working so well. I really like the star effect too.
