Hello Jane thank you for the comments. This photo was taken in the main street of Shiberghan, a small town 650kms north of Kabul the capital of Afghanistan. I arrived here in November 2004 and this was one of the first photos I was able to take.

I like the lighting in this and the contrasting colour of the horse's adornments.
The horse looks like he could do with a few square meals of hay.
