Hi Tom,

thanks for the comments. As a good geek, I'm a sucker for these types of unusual toys and can hardly resist buying them all when I find them!. So far they have just been sitting on the top of my monitor or on my shelfs, but now with these Challenges they are getting a new life ;-).

Once I decided to contrast the mechanical motion with the "dance lesson" steps , the material and title came easy. I did a search on the Web and found a few example diagrams. I downloaded several, picked my favorites, combined/colored then in Photoshop, scale them to the proper size and printed the result on Epson Matte Paper Heavyweight. I then taped the diagrams on a white foam core board. A1 was on a heavy tripod, with remote release and prefocused on the area. I used an incandescent lamp on the side and the 5600 flash bounced off another foam core board. The most challenging thing was getting Katita to stay in the area I wanted!

Very cool. Just visited their website, had no idea toys like this existed. Very creative toy as well as image. I just can't image how you got the background to look so perfect with the images.

Fun! Great subject. One could play with many a set-up with this gizmo. Lot's of motion, Very fast and confused looking. As though not sure which foot to put forward next. Has a nice abstract quality to the comp also. Another thoughtfull, fun set-up Mr. G. Like your B&G elevator also. Looking forward to next presentations. - JJ

I looked at that movie and your pic really illustrates the motion very well. The background is well chosen also.

Hi Niamh, glad you like it.

It's done with multiple exposures while in motion.

It took quite a few tries to get the effect I wanted. Katita The Hero (that's the name of the windup toy, which has an interesting story behind it -http://www.kikkerland.com/ ) moves very fast! (see movie on the site). I also did quite a few long shutter takes, and tried also multiflash but in the end I preferred this type of image by far.

very nice shot claudio but i am very curious - how did you get the blur effect? is this a
composite or did you photograph it moving?
