Busy Bee by John down under

my front garden, Adelaide, South Australia

I had to include at least one macro in C19, didn't I? ;o)

Some of you have seen this one before in a KMTF thread or maybe in my PBase bugs galleries. This bee was in the process of taking off from this lavender flower to head off to another one. After a fair bit of trying, I managed to get a pretty clear shot of this bee in flight showing its wings moving. I had my A1 set to manual focus at minimum macro focus distance. I exposed more or less for the ambient light, slightly under, and with some diffused fill flash from the inbuilt flash with my homemade diffuser. You can see from the EXIF data that the shutter speed is 1/250 sec, which allows us to see the wing blur quite readily from the ambient light.

It is incredible how sharp the body of the bee came out, while the motion of the wings is so nicely visible. I also like the colors and composition.
