First In Line For Opening Time by John down under, ant whisperer

Adelaide, Australia

I found this enormous ant in my bathroom and decided he(?) needed some air time in C12, so here he is with one of my wine bottles (white).
I think Houghton is a pretty good name for an ant. What do you think?

Crikey John, you love your minature wildlife.

Just how did you convince the critter to pose.

Well thought out and executed.

John,

Good to see your friends like the wine as well :-) That IS quite a large one, isn't it? Good color, contrast and detail.

G'day everyone. Thanks for stopping by to say hi to my ant on his (her?) Houghton wine bottle.
This ant is 15mm long, not including its wings or legs. I thought it may have been a wasp when I first saw it from a distance. I don't think I have ever seen an ant that big before. This shot was with A1 macro, but no additional close-up lens.
Cheers, John

Hi John,
I take it that Houghton is a beer brand, right? Anyway, your picture reminded me of a Swedish song about an ant finding a beer bottle in the wood. He takes a sip and gets a huge self-confidence and cries out "I'm a Moose". After a while he encounters a chewing gum he starts a wrestling match with. He finally gets stuck in the gum and dies. The moral being never wrestle with a gum while drunk. Anyway, a good macro again.
Cheers, Fred

Well, certainly on the edge! What is Houghton...beer? Can't imagine what else would be so intriguing. Did you wait long for this? Is he trained? Excellent, JDU.

Enourmous hardly describes this ant. What's in the water down under? With ants so large macro mode may not be necessary. You certainly have a great eye, John, this image is captivating.

I like the angle of the head - as if he's (she's) trying to nudge the top off.

At my house she would have fallen in at the end of her epic climb! ... bottles with that name do not stay corked for very long.. Very nice details. Is this done with you CULs or by crop?

Don't know about the name, but it's a great macro shot once again. The yellow cap fits well to the color of the background and the ant is right on the edge. Sharpness also is good as always. congrats,

I am not sure that Houghton is a good name for a girl ant! She is really on the edge. Excellent macro. Is it really Minolta Dimage A1? How come I am unable to do that!
Cheers
