Extreme Wrestling by John down under, ant whisperer

Adelaide, Australia

This is really living - and dying :o( - on the edge: two on one wrestling on the edge of a match!
If there's one thing I've learned from taking ant macros, it's that those large black ants and large brown ants don't enjoy each other's company! This is the only session where I put them together. The black one is the same type that bit my thumb, so I have a feeling that kind of ant might have a bit too much testosterone. The brown ones are called honey ants and they have an unusual smell.
In this shot, the ant on its back beneath the other one on the match head is a brown one and the other brown ant is pulling the leg of the black ant to try to stop it from attacking its brown friend. In the previous shot, the 'free' brown ant was hanging from the end of the match with the other two dangling via the black ant's leg, but that wasn't a very good shot at all, so I couldn't use it.

John,
you never fail to completely amaze me with your great macros, which are full of detail and with plenty points of interest. Definitely not the usual ant stuff. Two thumbs up (unfortunately I don't have more ;-) )

Hi Ant Whisperer!
Right on. I really enjoy the story. I wish you could enter this in the competition. Terrific for the theme. So who won?!
Cheers

Thank you for sharing this info about ants with us. This is a well captured macro image with plenty of detail. It also tells a story.

If the discovery channel ever has an opening in Australia, you'll have to apply ;)
