+ Restructuring by John down under, ant whisperer

Adelaide, Australia

We all know that ants are highly organised creatures, so it should come as no surprise that, when I was chasing him for some macro shots, this guy decided to restructure my thumbprint .;o)

The current version (also posted on 12 June) reorients/reframes the ant and uses Photoshop's Shadow/Highlight function to show more shadow detail on the ant.

Well ,John it must be very interesting at your house with all the different creatures you bring home to photograph. I personally prefer mine to stay outside. This guy looks like he is saying I'm King of the Hill, so to speak.

THe shadow detail brought by out PS makes this one serious ant at work.
Great effort and creativity to get this pic. I am inspired.

G'day everyone. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Australian ants are cool for sure. I brought this one home from work (along with a few of his mates ... just in case) and we had a great studio session or two on my dining room table.
As for beauty and the beast, I'll leave that up to each person to decide.
When the CX theme was announced, I thought of this one with its interesting textures, plus I also like the background colour effect that I managed to create.
Cheers, John

Great texture on the ant, John ! Can't find such adorable subjects here in Belgium.
Guess down under is a great place to live (even with all these ants ;-)

John,
another great macro I especially like the color of the background that gaives the kick to me. BTW how do you make those small friends to hold still, I never managed to catch an ant or are down under ants just cool.

Hi,
Can I call this one "Beauty anthe beast"? But it's a problem: who is who?
Great JDU, great "ants tamer" and great shot!

I've changed the framing to reorientate the ant (it was originally upside down and more vertical). Cheers, John

g'day jdu - sometimes ignorance is bliss - it was for me 12.5 weeks ago when i purchased my first A2.. now, i perceive more and more mastery from most everyone, that i did not previously understand... thanks for giving me the chance to look at this with new eyes - wonderful pic - and great title ;-)

Thanks Niamh,
This is the same original. I'm going to play with framing a bit to see whether I can improve this one a bit more, although I still like it as is.

I was impressed by this shot when I first saw it (although it made my eyes water) and seeing it again just reinforces the great composition and perfect timing. I like the colourful background as well to complement the texture of the finger to make the ant stand out. I don't remember that from the first time I saw this... is it an addition?
