Actually, I like the way it works "against the grain" of the theme. It's kind of like a flower that's not yet unfolded.

After reading all the comments, I can see your point. niamh, you are right. I was thinking about the excitement of anticipation, but I can also see why others find this image more as less than joyful. I do have another photo with 2 kids riding through the scene on their bikes, but I was trying to eliminate people from the images. I'll just have to give the next competition more thought :)
Thanks again!

I think anticipation/ excitement can also be a form of joy, so your composition and title make sense to me. I like the colours and the reflection, but I feel perhaps the swings' frame is a little too structured and "severe" for the mood you want to convey?

My first thought was: Where is the joy without the kids? Then I read the comment - OK, but the picture still looks empty for me.
The strong lines of this construction are beautiful in themselves. Playground equipment without children, to me, does not speak of joy. Waiting is not joy either. But the reflections are marvelous! Wouldn't it be a hoot if you could Photoshop in some kids at play seen only in the puddle reflection? Nicely shot. Good, pure colors.
