Lone Tree by Michael Lampi

All I did to this image was snap the photo (downhill from my deck), and convert it to B&W. It was a bit foggy - you can't see the other trees, the lake, the mountains, Waldo or even the sun for that matter. Still, there was this tree...

Ok, Richard, et al, I replaced the original image with this one taken moments earlier. This includes some of the details you suggested would make it a better image. Otherwise, it is a full frame crop, and otherwise almost identical to the original image. --Michael Lampi

A nice pic, but it possibly needs another layer in the middle distance? Not sure if reframing was possible when you took the pic, but a bit more of the shadow detail at the bottom might help? Works very nicely in B&W. Content fits in with well with the alone theme.
Regards,
Richard.

Thanks, Jim. I took some other shots of the tree, too. They included some dark stuff looming in the background which otherwise might have detracted from the "lone tree" image. However, this one seemed to appeal more to my sense of aesthetics re: the theme.

Yes, it fits the theme, Michael. OTOH it's kind of plain, don't you think? A suggestion would be to prove it's alone, by showing lots of space around it. You have the base of the tree, and who-knows-what-else cut off. There may be items of interest to add to the composition. (Not trees, of course.)
