I think you have chosen an interesting viewpoint, with a message too; peace-violence / near-faraway...too fanciful? I also like how the quartz stripe echoes the post.
There is indeed a story here, but I only know a little. The cannon is just down from the Baltit Fort belonging to the King of Karimabad until the British colonial rulers in 1891. For further information on the peace pole, go to www.worldpeace.org.

I quite like a crop just under the word Earth, leaving the message intact, but removing a large amount of the prominent rock. This also has the effect of bring into the centre the (to me) powerful image of the stopper in the end of the cannon.
Yes, the mountains behind are in the Hindu Kush, not a long way from K2.

I had to think a bit about this one Brian! The mountains are beautiful and the juxtaposition of the canon and peace-post hits the theme exactly, but that large chunk of rock with the quartz vein seems a bit too prominent in the image for me. What do you think about a cropping out the bottom third just under the l in the word 'Prevail'? Nigel
