So we wait for it, every year, some of us (me) dreading it far more than others. When it finally arrives -- the cold, the early dark, the frozen lakes, the snow -- we almost invariably realize it's never as bad as we'd been anticipating. In fact, we always forget how beautiful it is until it gets here.
