This was a dramatic but distressing encounter with a lion attacking a baby elephant. The elephant appeared to have been abandoned by its mother and when we found it, was being defended from the lion by a large male. The male elephant gave up quite quickly and left the baby to its fate. Sadly, the lion inflicted terrible injuries on the young elephant but was unable to kill it. The attack commenced at 6.30 AM and the elephant was still alive late that afternoon.
