Thanks Phil... I find 1/500 too slow for birds in flight. I usually shoot AV mode and keep an eye on the shutter speed -- either adjusting the ISO or aperture for a shutter of 1/1000ish for in-flight shots. In flight shots are tough -- much fewer keepers than static subjects.

Matthew I am in awe of your images, your timing and composition are just great. I am still trying to figure out how you get your flying shots so sharp, I got a chance today and the best one you can only see his rear. I shot aat 1/500 of a sec but semm to get a blur when I pan.I guess I have to get the timing down.I REally like your Cormorant and Heron fight.
