M-4A3E8 Sherman tank with the 76mm gun. This tank is equipped with the HVSS (Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension). This type of track did away with the guides mounted on the end connectors and used a center guide that ran between the roadwheels. This type of track suspension was less difficult to repair and was known as the "Easy Eight". This track system was the precursor to all the following main battle tanks designed in the USA.
