Last March, I spent for 3 weeks working at an animal sanctuary in Thailand:
Wildlife Friends Foundation, Thailand (WFFT).
This sanctuary gives lifelong shelter to elephants and to monkeys or rehabilitates those
that might be able to be released into the wild again. The trade in baby monkeys while illegal
is still going strong. We observed a stall on the night market offering a baby macaque.
However, these are wild animals and once they grow they loose their 'cuteness' and
are difficult to train. This results that these intelligent animals are being kept
in unacceptable conditions and often live a life in confinements totally unsuitable to them.
The sanctuary accepts all animals that are being brought to WFFT, often providing
necessary medical attention.
