Central America

www.PINCC.org is working towards the prevention of cervical cancer.

I just returned from my humanitarian medical mission trip to Nicaragua and El Salvador and what an experience it was. Working among the rural people in the mountains bordering Honduras and Guatemala made me humble and reflect on my life here at home. The hardship of everyday demands of feeding large families, the parched land barely sustaining agriculture and feeding the thin cows that graze on it, the different cultural values, the happiness in the children's faces and the weathered lines in the faces of old women and men, the patience of the women at the clinics waiting - sometimes all day - without complaint to be seen the "American Doctor" and the acceptance of their small children quietly playing at their mother's feet painted a tapestry not seen by the casual visitor to these countries. We met remarkable doctors and nurses dedicated to their patients, and talked to PeaceCorps volunteers to gain more insight into the life in the rural mountains.

PINCC Mission:
Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in the world today, and in poor countries it is number one. Over 290,000 women die of it every year; yet it is completely preventable with screening and treatment. The PINCC.org mission is to provide one-visit cervical cancer prevention treatment to women without access to care in developing countries. PINCC trains medical personnel in these areas to continue this important work. PINCC provides volunteer doctors and counselors who travel to underserved areas worldwide. PINCC use a proven single-visit protocol, developed by the U. N. World Health Organization's Alliance for Cervical Cancer Prevention. This VIA/cryotherapy/LEEP program is more effective than traditional PAP smears, PINNC’s teams can screen, diagnose and treat precancerous lesions of the cervix with a success rate of over 90%. We carry all necessary equipment, and need only electricity to provide full treatment.
