I flew over Tahoe (on a commercial flight) on my way from Boise to San Jose on Sunday, June 24, 2007, just 2 hours after the Angora Fire started. The speed by which the fire developed as can be seen by the enormous smog clouds already reaching into the almost Nevada was impressive and frightening. By that night, 50 homes were destroyed and before the fire could be contained a total of 254 homes had gone up in flames as well as 75 other buildings.
