MP 3278, SD40-2. Basically an Athearn 'blue box' kit. The model started out as a prepainted shell purchased at Arrow Hobby in Pomona, California. The basic frame is of unknown origin. The driveline has tuned Athearn trucks and driveshafts with a Mashima motor for power. The common detarl have been added (pilot, grabirons, horn, eye bolts). It was originally assembled in 1993 or so. In 2004, I majorly overhauled the body along with 4 of its siblings. Cannon fans and Details West coupler buffers were installed, the 'pin' type body mounts were eliminated and the body is now held on by the couplers. The frame was milled to eliminate the cast on bumps and tank fittings were installed. The body was repainted, re-decaled and weathered.
