Bainbridge Island

"The Island" is a rural place, becoming suburban in spite of itself. Many of the houses are hidden back behind the fir trees. But growing population is bringing condos and an almost-constant stream of traffic along the highway that splits the island. It's the gateway to the Olympic Peninsula with its national park, its miles of hiking trails, and its ferry to Vancouver Island. These views capture remnants of its rural character.

Especially during the winter months - when painting on location is a often a less than pleasant experience - every plein air painter could learn a lot from studying these beautiful images, come to appreciate the beauty close to home on Bainbridge Island, and be inspired to include some of the sites David has photographed in planning for the next "Outdoor Studio" season. David, thank you for sharing these on the Bainbridge Island Photo Club Website.

Although "Bainbridge is changing," and it's heartbreaking to see how fast, your images remind me to keep my eye on the Island stuff that matters. Many thanks for recording and sharing some of my favorite views.
