Valley of Fires National Recreation Area

Four miles west of Carizozo, and possibly the youngest lava flow in the United States (1,500 to 2,000 years old), the Malpais pahoehoe
flowed 44 miles from fissures near Little Black Peak, visible just a few miles north. Today, the Chihuahuan Desert covers it with abundant greenery and animal life.
The Valley of Fires campground, luxurious in comparison with many others, with the most expansive heated restroom I've ever seen, features covered camp tables, power, water, and hot showers.
