Spanish Moss (a bromeliad rather than a moss, actually) was the big hit for us here as we don't see that in our dry, western states. There were also a young black cat and dog who seemed curious but standoffish and ownerless; I wondered if they had been displaced by some recent hurricane. The park also had hickory trees, under which I collected a good number of undamaged nuts. I was very sad to be told later by someone calling herself a naturalist at another park that they were beech nuts (they weren't; I should have checked with someone else before discarding them). Now I'm REALLY sad about them, as I've never eaten hickory nuts and would have enjoyed them!
