Near an edge of the small town of Waldport a few miles north of Yachats in Lincoln County, Oregon, the Lint Slough Trail starts as an inviting road that narrows into a sometimes-sketchy woodland trail alongside the Alsea River's estuary. At the time of our October visit, it was a good place to see kingfishers, great blue herons, great egrets, mallards, and a cormorant in the water, and mushrooms at every turn. It is quite new as an established trail, and needs some loving maintenance; with all the rain this area receives, plants are rapidly reclaiming space that was wrenched from their grasp when the wood-chip trail surface was laid.
