What is it?? The best we can figure is that it is a lengthy accumulation of packrat poop. There were piles like this--some were much larger--in many similar nooks on the vertical face of the cliff. Research since this time has confirmed our idea, and further, has told us that this stuff actually becomes amberized, at which point it's called 'amberat.'
