After cresting the North Kaufman Ridge on State Highway 285, we descend along one side of a lovely, wide, grassy valley
(we might learn its name soon); on our other side is a smaller valley with another road through it, called Castle Rock Gulch. That road reaches at least one other
that we are interested in traveling once the snow has departed (the gate is opened April 1, but that's too early
for the conditions encountered in its dense shade). Meanwhile, the road goes past two or three of these rock formations,
collectively called the Castle Rocks. I find them attractive whatever the weather.
