The westward-walking pioneers of the 1840s and 1850s came past this rock on the trail near where I stood,
and wrote of having to clamber down the thousand-foot cliff on my side to bring water up for their families and animals.

Sheep Mountain is the northernmost extension of the Wasatch Mountains that connect Idaho with Arizona (through Utah).
