Hi Chris,
The more I use this lens the more I find it to be an awesome piece of equipment...

Hi Chris,
Yes, these birds are hunted in the Spring over decoys and hopefully called in close enough for a shot. Their meat is a bit stronger tasting because of the varied food they eat.

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your pictures of Dorset. I originate from Bridport but have lived in Liverpool for many years (a city with amazing architecture which you might have a look at). Your images reminded me of home but I also appreciate your artistry, in that many pictures are much more than a mere record.

Good Autumn images are difficult too come by this year, our wild fires have filled the skies with a smoke haze that coves up our magnificent scenery and Autumnal colors....

Thanks Chris...
The morning fog was magical, and the calls of the loons, as I took those images, was a pleasant addition to the moment...

Thanks Chris, your comments on my images are always appreciated.
The day I took that image,(water falls) the temp. was hovering near 100 degrees. Our trip went from sweltering heat in the river canyons to thunderstorms and hail in the mountainous regions of Idaho...

Many thanks Chris for your nice comments on my images...
I've been lacking in my viewing of your work and will make a concerted effort to be more attentive in the future.
I took a hiatus from photography for awhile to re-coop and rejuvenate from burn-out. I'm just now getting back into a photo routine, as well as learning a new camera. I've updated all my equipment and am enjoying a new desire for photography....

Let me add my name to the long list of admirers of your photographic skills. It is always such a treat to visit your site and pop into a gallery and cruise around. You have such a wonderful variety of really beautiful images. My guess is that you are just as great a Pastor as you are a photographer! Hope all is well with you and that you have a happy and healthy 2011.

Chris, I have just come across your galleries in pBase. I will have to go through each one but I have to say that for a Pastor you have a great photographic eye! I particularly like photos of the small villages and houses in the English countryside. My wife's family is in Devon and we are there yearly.

Not having looked at all your galleries but have you ever been to Cockinton (sp?) on the English Riveria. There is a beautiful pink cottage as well as the Forge buildings as well that just beg to be photographed.

My wife and I were married in Woodbury Salterton and walked down the village street to have a small family reception in the Diggers Rest in 2006. We love the Devon countryside and have done some exploration in Surry and Cornwall.

I look forward to looking through your portfolios.

Hi Chris,

I was doing research on an ancestor and came across your wonderful photos of the Martock Church. I am a photographer in Colorado, US and really loved your images of this church. Very beautiful! You have a great photographic talent in many ways.

I've been told that my great, great, great grandfather, George Paul was a preacher at the Martock church for about 50 years. We think he died in 1893. Would you know who I could contact to see if our family story on Reverend George Paul is correct? Thank you for any suggestions!
David Bannister04-Nov-2010 23:19
Thanks Chris, your comment on my image... it definitely is Grand Bend. Looked through your very nice and extensive portfolios, and didn't see that you have been here... but that's entirely possible. Thanks for your kind remarks!

Chris:

I'm giving a presentation on photography this Thursday at the local Middle School. With your permission I would like to print 3 or 4 of your photographs to use with my presentation. I especially want to use a couple of you HDR shots. No problem if you are not comfortable with this request. Just say so. Thanks.

Chris:

Check this out. I think they've gone a bit overboard. I have no idea the real name of this church but my wife and I pass it often on our way to Kentucky. We've named it "The Church of What's Happenin' Now." You need a bigger building with your growth and programs but please don't get any ideas when you see this. IHS

The beauty of Pbase, are the world wide trips I'm able to take each and every morning. I see the beauty of our world through the lens of all my photographic friends. The landscapes of the world, in all their variations, are available to me at a touch of my mouse. I'm just happy that I am able to contribute to that beauty through my photography...

Before ,just before, I go to lookkyour official site.I discovered that you are a preacher.I understand why your words are always so kind for me.In your comments I find the spirit of a friend of long time.Very often I do a trip on your pictures ,I find some church ,also I like it is a quiet instant.Your landscapes are my favorite pictures of you with the Chris Blue very often, and the Great Britain takes an interesting way in my mind for a trip.My family name comes from the French Brtitanny when I find in your Gallery the same type of view for the sea,the rock, the village,... always very beloved to my soul.It is a little difficult for me to speak with the Shakespear language,I try the best for you.I see also that you like the music, also not the same but I must progress;i has stayed with all the english group of 60's and after..sorry for this inclination. As you say always Best regards ,but I prefer "to Chris a Friend in the blue of the sky.

Hello Chris, I am also from the West Country in Taunton and have recently started using a DSLR. Your superb galleries have given me good ideas for places to go. You have captured most of the good coastal areas round here, like Sidmouth where I went yesterday, and I'd agree this is an excellent place for photography. Keep us the good work - Adrian

Your photographs are stunning. Since retiring I have taken up painting as an enthusiastic if not too proficient amateur and would really like to use some of your photographs as inspiration for new paintings. I don't simply copy photographs but try to use them for inspiration for paintings. I would be obliged if you would advise on permission to use . I can't find youe e-mail address so hope you can reply from this posting. Thankyou

Amazing photos!

Your photos taken in England are so nostalgic to me. Especially the ones taken in York.
One in particular " The Shambles" was taken in the exact same spot of one I took. I took mine in the mid-sixties and not much has changed. If I had your email address I could send the file to you for interest. Again wonderful photos.

I love English churches and England in general. I was there last year, and visited many beautiful churches I had not been to before, as well as meeting some beloved old friends in stone. I am having such a wonderful restful time finding all the sites, and yours are especially lovely. Thank you for giving so much joy.

You say you're busy with church work, but I can appriciate that you spend a lot of time at the computer. However, itis has paid dividends when you can produce such a fantasic display of images. 800,000 hits and 2,000 photos! Wow!!
Maybe you should contact me about the 240 feet plus of hanging wall space at Images Fitness Studio. I have had an exhibition of 25 pictures at Images for four months now and would like to expand this number. I hope you are interested in exhibiting some of your pictures there. 01935 424388

Dear Chris, I love your beautiful photographs of the City of Wells. I wonder do you know the house where Elizabeth Goudge (authoress) was born? I know it was called 'Tower House' and thought it was opposite the building you called 'The Crooked House' - 'The Rib' -once 'The Principle's House' where they lived when EG was 2 years old untill the move from Wells I believe.
My husband and I have been visiting Wells since 1962 and still discovering new things.
I must look in at you other pictures now, I have just discovered this site. God bless your pastoral work. Marion S.

Hi Chris,
Great pictures, and also we share a surname - I've been researching the Spracklen surname for awhile now, and was wondering if you might be related somewhere down the line...... If any of your ancestors came from Wales, or before that from Dorset then we may well be! My grandfather was Joseph herbert Spracklen (1890 - 1966, who had an older brother William Matthew Spracklen, so I was wondering if you belonged to his family?
My email is jamiespracklen@hotmail.com if your interested in getting in touch.

Great pictures. The climate of europe is especially suitable for making great photos because of different seasons and very clean air. Unlike us living in asia. I own a Nikon F55 with 70-300 lens and considering buying a D70 with 18-70 lens. I hope i am able to make some good photos with my dream camera.
Great work...

Hello Chris, a dear friend and his wife from Houston, served for two years as Pastor to 5 Methodist churches around Darby/Derby??? Not sure of the spelling. Your galleries are beautiful. We have visited England a couple of times and I've always said I want to come back and photograph in the countryside. But if I don't make it, I can always just go to your galleries and enjoy the beauty.
Dave from San Diego, CA 04-May-2005 01:44
I've been in semi-pro photography for many years, and have a Nikon N90 with several "D" Series lenses (28-70mm & 80-200mm). I also have a great Hasselblad 500CM. I'm about to buy a Nikon D70s (goin' digital!), and use my Nikon lenses & accessories. Whatever doubt I may have had has been totally erased by your galleries. I've *never* seen such amazing views of your countryside (or a better demonstration of the D70)! Your use of light, sky, and composition could be used in a textbook. I'd really like to know more about the "sky" in your compositions. I've rarely seen such dramatic clouds and lighting. Is it England or PhotoShop or gradient filtering? Whatever ... brilliant! Any comments would be very appreciated. By the way ... thanks for a most enjoyable tour your beautiful countryside!

Dear Owen,

Many thanks for your kind comments in my guestbook. It's always a joy to hear from other believers!

With regards to my pictures: Sometimes I use a tripod, if the light situation demands it, but I'm a bit lazy and don't like carrying it!! Every one of my images will have been through Photoshop, if only to check and adjust the levels, but usually I do a lot more ~ bump up the hue and saturation a little, sort out any lean to the left or right, clone out TV aeriels and other unsightly objects, replace a sky if I need to, etc.

With regard to my church: It came from a Christian Brethren background, but is now an eclectic mix of people from all kinds of denominations ~ Anglican, Baptist, Salvation Army, Methodist, Charismatic, etc!! We are simply a free, evangelical church which is not locked into any particular denomination, though we have informal links with other fellowships of like mind through a group called Partnership; are members of the Evangelical Alliance; and also play a full part in our village's 'Christians Together' group.

Thanks again for your message,

Chris
Guest 14-Mar-2005 16:40
Chris,

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of your amazing pictures. You have a wonderful eye both for composition and color. I am curious about your technique. Do you use a tripod or polarizing filters? Do you make adjustments to most of your pictures in photoshop, or are most of them straight? You make me look forward with greater anticipation to leading a group of college students to Britain in May, and you make me consider the purchase of a DSLR, which I had really not thought about before.

Finally, as an elder at my local Presbyterian Church USA congregation, I am curious about the Christian Fellowship? Is it a local church, a denomination, and if so is it afiliated with a larger denomination?

Thanks again for sharing your gift.

Owen Duncan, Indianola, IA, USA

Sorry! I answered your first comment before I'd read the second.
I use the 70-300mm lens (Nikon 'G' series). If you'd like to see some samples of work done with this lens go to my 'Glorious Stourhead' gallery and look at the latest batch of pictures (January 2004). All but the last two were taken with the 70-300, most of them together with an SB600 Speedlight.
Best regards, Chris
Chris Spracklen08-Mar-2005 22:24
Thanks for your kind comment, Judy.
Unfortunately my D70's had to go back to Nikon for repair ~ an intermittent fault with the focussing! But it's a wonderful camera to use and I really miss it!! The shop I bought it from have given me an 8700 to use in the meantime and it's simply not in the same league!!
Best regards, Chris

I clicked a button accidentally before I wrote THANKS for putting your photos out there for others to look at and enjoy !!! It is so helpful to see photos taken by the camera I am considering. I do have one question that maybe you could help me with.

One thing I would like to photograph in addition to "God's handiwork" is lacrosse and soccer games. Any advice on which lens or lenses to get for that???

Dear Chris, I have been really taken in by your work. I am originally from Germany and have moved with my family to the US. I work as Social Worker for the State and see much, much desperation and pain. That is why I love to take pictures. It helps so to balance myself, but it also gives others a look at the world from the perspective of loving creation and the sense that there is some peace and beauty in some ordinary things amongst us. Oh, there is so much beauty in our Father's world. If only more people like you would be around to show us all. After discovering your galleries I frequently stop in to just see some of the beautiful sights that your eyes spot and that you capture with your camera. Harmony. That is what your images bring to me. I am loosing myself here. I did share your address with my Pastor here in the US. He is a wonderful, wonderful person. He accompanied my family and me as I underwent a cerebral anareuism surgery at John Hopkins Hospital 2 years ago. And God just shortly before that had brought me to his little country church. One just has to look to see there God touches us and there Jesus still works right amongst all of us. Being a Methodist Pastor, Greg Spencer, since has also been trying to bring together a new congragation under the name of "The Way". Bringing together people from a diversity of backgrounds and showing ways of teaching Jesus's followers the way of living as Christians in todays world. May I ask therefore, if you would grant permission to share your Christian Slide Show images in Pastor Gregs Outreach? It will not be for any profit and the credits will always be given to you. If you will allow us to do so, and reach across the miles of ocean, as the deciples did, we would so appreciate it. Maybe you would like to touch base with Pastor Greg? Before being called to teach us all of the Lord, he spend time with cameras hisself. He can be reached at glspencer@verizon.net
Again Chris, Thank You so much for your inspirations.

God Bless and Keep You

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your kind comment.
Sadly, my D70 has just had to go back to Nikon owing to an intermittent focussing problem ~ I feel lost without it!
As to post-processing, I'm using Photoshop CS.
Kind regards, Chris

Greetings from Amman, Jordan.
I enjoyed touring your galleries. Expressive and artistic shots indeed. I am attracted to the English countryside with its landscapes, cottages, flora and fauna. I spent 5 years in England as a student at Lancaster University, and I loved week-end trips to the Lake District.
Keep up your good work, and God Bless.

Hi Chris,

you have a great talent, and put it to excellent use - God bless. The pics in your galleries are a real inspiration for, I have re-discovered and recognised some "rules" I had long ago forgotten. Keep up the passion and the good work, with the D70 and in the Lord's name.

I am currently saving for a D70 - hope to be able to create a few galleries of my own.

I noticed that you framed your pictures on pbase. It really adds alot to the presentation. How do you create the frames? In PS? Thanks and keep up the GREAT work.

Dear Chris!

Your gallery is wonderful!!! I think, the best, I've seen so far. And because of you are a pastor, I am very happy! I am in the reformed church (Calvinist) in Hungary, near the city of Debrecen (the "Calvinist Rome" :))
I'm going to buy a D70 (with the 18-70 Nikon lens, I hope it is as good as yours, except the ultra zoom range :)), so I am very excited. I've the Photoshop, and I have a tutorial book (Classroom in a book) about it. (Is it a good book to learn the Photoshop?)
But about the frames, I've read on your page:
"I prepared a tutorial on frame making for my Usefilm friends. If you'd like me to e-mail you a copy, please send me an e-mail at: chrisspracklen@btopenworld.com."
Is it possible to send it to me, too?

On the net, is there a good tutorial or anything else to learn the use of D70? To learn techniques?

Thank you very much:
Robert Orcsik

Your landscape photographs impose a reverential quality on the scenes. Remarkable quietude. I do love the English countryside.

I noted an earlier guest researching the Spracklen name. I, too, am a Spracklen and my family originated in the Lyme area and the Isle of Guernsey. Could be we have a relation back a ways.

Thanks for sharing your vision of the spiritual and humorous in Creation.

Greetings from Indiana, USA, Chris.

I just had the pleasure of touring your galleries. What a beautiful experience. You are truly gifted. I especially enjoyed the shots of the villages and towns, as I am a collector of picture postcards of cities and towns worldwide. Is there any way I could persuade you to send me a card from your town. I will appreciate it very much, and welcome cards from any other readers of this guestbook. Always good to meet a fellow Pilgrim.

Just googling around from here in Toronto and I found your picture of the Knapp in Barrington. My grandparents lived there from 1943 until my grandmother died in 1965. Its changed a bit since then! Do you have any pictures of the main house or just the road outside?

Hi Chris,
It is in the middle of the night here (or early morning) and I am glad I have found your portfolio here with so many beautiful pictures!!! I have enjoyed them very much and although I have seen a lot of them before on Usefilm, I have seen pictures here I have never seen! They help me to get through the night.
Thanks.

THanks for you kind words starting off my guestbook!
I indeed already saw some more of your galleries includingg D70 one. It IS a wonderfull camera indeed. I am very pleased with it and will have a lot of fun with for some time to come. Actually I had the same with the s602, a great cam with more or less the same 'spirit' as the D70. Many of my pics are from the s602.
BTW my comment about not sharing your first passion was meant to make clear my comment was about your impressive craftmansship, not because I just liked the message.
I respect off course your first passion and indeed it seems that your attitude and personality makes you a great pastor.

Chris

Hi Chris

i came across your pictures whilst surfing the net looking for family history information. I am researching the Sprackl*n* family tree & according to my records you & my husband are 3rd cousins! Would you be willing to help with information on your branch of the family?

I have quite a bit of info already on the spracklens - i have traced them back in Martinstown to 1600's but apparently they originate from vikings!

Pleae let me know if you would be interested in helping.
my email is sammilou1965@aol.com
or my phone number is 01305 784688

i notice from you pictures that your boyhood home was down near the harbour - we live not far from there off of chickerell road. My husband had a house in Franchise Street during his first marriage in the 1980's.

Hope to hear from you soon

Have traveled from afar. (Not really. Just from usefilm.com) What wonderful photographs. Such a nice comment on my wedding photo. Thank you. I see so many stunned apprecitive people here of your wonderful comments. Amazed that you can become better when your images are so wonderful. How much you honor them with your praise. Isn't that how one becomes better though? Never loosing that sense of wonder, appreciation, striving, that we all begin with? Your lack of condesention and big heart (and not a big head) help make you a better photographer (and probably a great pastor as well).
I have lived in California for most of my life, but I am also from the south of England. Born in Cornwall. Technically born in Penzance, but my parents were living in Mousehole. Your beautiful scenic photos make me yearn even more to travel back and explore. Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos with all of us, and sharing with us the beauty of your part of the world.

Chris,

Lovely shots! Ran across your D70 gallery first, which is probably not one I needed to see. I have a Panasonic Lumix FZ-10, which I love, but I've been daydreaming about getting a D70 to go with my languishing-in-the-camera-bag Nikon lenses. Seeing your D70 shots was another nudge in that direction.

My posted shots from the Lumix are at:http://www.pbase.com/milholland_p

Keep up the good work!

Hi Chris
had a look at your images, and was very impressed. Think it's fair to say your pics are in a different league to mine. Hard to believe we used the same camera LOL...

all my pics were shot at 3mill pix fine, and apart from some cropping were not post processed in any way(as you problay can see :-) ). Not because i don't believe in it, but because dont know how.
having said that i did 'auto levels' using the ACDC editor on the albert bridge pic because the original was a bit dark.

So what post process do you carry out on your pics? I'll be interested to find out...
i would imagine learning photoshop involves investing a lot of time and effort. somthing which i dont have a lot of right now. I had a brief look at it but was a bit overwhelmed..
Do you have any recomendations on how i can improve my pics?
I accept that sooner or later i'll have to start experimenting with photoshop, otherwise some decent pics may be 'lost'.

I no longer have a s602 which went missing when i was on holiday...I now use the s5000.
which i'm reasonably happy with. Probably end up with the s7000.(when i can afford it)

think maybe i need to start shooting in 6million pix, for improved quality/cropping.
(damm! that means buying another memory card ;-) ).
cheers

Chris,
Thank you so much for your encouragement after looking at the fun pictures on my Apostolic Christian Young Group page. It's really neat to know that in some way my meager pictures simply meant to keep my friends/family updated on what's going on have served as an encouragement for others in the body of Christ.

I really enjoy some of your images. You do beautiful work.

Hello Chris

Thank you ever so much for visiting my Canon EOS 10D gallery, and for the kind comment you left for me.

I did take some time looking through your collection, and was very pleased with my findings. I particularily like the daring and creative way you use PS to enhance your photographs, something that I have been rather shy to go in to so far.

You may have noticed that I am now involved in "The PAD Project" a challenge that a group of people on pbase have taken on, demanding one picture each and every day for a whole year. While dealing with that challenge, I reckon I have to leave aside other issues, such as comlicated PS post processing. When time becomes available for that, I will most certainly look at that aspect of your work for guidance. Until then I will be visiting your galleries for pure pleasure - and some inspiration as well.

Thank you again for visiting my gallery - and happy shooting - again and again.

My god ! thank a lot ! but you are blind ? My galleries are really
bad beside yours ! I am so amazed with your pictures (i am jalous).
I tried to find some ugly and bad done pictures.. no way.. most of them
are wondeful... and especially very well composed , with the right
day light. I suppose that you are a professional photographer ?
Your landcapes could be printed in a Art book. Really.
WHich camera are you using ? I am very curious to know :))

Anyway Bravo ! and thank for your comment you wrote in my galleries.
Now i that saw your galleries, i know that this is a privilege to receive
a such positive comment from you !
