The Northwest Passage, the sea routes through the Arctic connecting the
Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean, has drawn explorers for centuries
to find a trade route between Europe and the Orient. Many early explorers
died in the unforgiving cold yet native people learned to survive.
As the pack ice becomes less of a threat in modern times, commercial
shipping has begun to use the Northwest Passage and fortunately for us,
so has exploration tourism. Much remains to be proven to make this route
commercially viable including the most difficult, politics.
