The Mulberry Harbor (1)

Arromanches, France

A Mulberry Harbor is a portable harbor created by the British for the
World War 2 Allied invasion of Normandy to allow a quick deployment
of military supplies once the invasion began. In the 10 months
after D-Day, this harbor was used to land over 2.5 million men,
500,000 vehicles, and 4 million tons of supplies.

Most of the concrete jetties in the harbor has been lost to storms
but a number of these support platforms still remain.
