Canada has a 'fairly' new system, car plates for veterans.
By law, ALL public parking spaces have to offer parking reserved for handicapped people, usually painted blue and requires a small tag that people hang from the rear view mirror inside their car.
Now, available Canada wide (the design varies from Province to Province), more and more public places also offer 2-3 additional places, painted green with a big red maple leaf design in the middle, next to the handicap places (which are always next to the entry/exit points), reserved for military veterans. To park in those places, you need to have a car plate such as this. Otherwise, you'd get a parking ticket which could end-up close to a $150 fine!
Just another way to say thank you and appreciate the service the veterans have provided to Canada. All active members of the Armed Services as well as members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police can also have that plate.
