These are scanned slides of photos taken on a visit to Fort Jay, the US Army installation on Governors Island in 1963. The photos show Lower Manhattan as it appeared in 1963, which was before the construction of the World Trade Center North and South Towers which started in 1968 and was completed in 1972.

I was a member of the Ft. Jay project staff with the Coast Guard in '65. There were only two enlisted Coasties and 4 officers during the initial transition from Army to Coast Guard. A very interesting period.
