Cirque of the Towers, WY

The Cirque of the Towers is in the southern end of the WindRiver mountains of WY. It is a semi circle of peaks all above 13,000 ft with a lake at their base and a drainage leaving to the east. It is a 23 mile walk from the east side or 10 mile walk from the west over a high pass. Either route is challenging. The area was used by many in the 50s for rock climbing. Since then mostly backpackers pass through the area. The distance from the east keeps most away and the western route is shorter but very difficult. So the area sees little use but the views and the high peaks are some of the best in the lower 48. The area is locked in snow till mid July when I hiked to this area. The images are scanned from 35mm positives recorded in July of 1985. I returned again to this area for six days in September of 2001. When I walked out of the woods from this hike 9/11/01 had happened. I will scan more of the images collected during my first hike. I used a early Nikon point and shoot with fixed 35mm f/2.8 lens.
